The latest release of the caps audio plugin suite contains a number of
bug fixes and improvements as well as changes intended to make it
more suitable for low-power systems.
http://quitte.de/dsp/caps.html#CHANGES

Most notably, support for a variety of little-used features has been
dropped, reducing the binary size by roughly a third. There's also a
new plugin implementing simplistic linear emulation of several guitar
amplifier loudspeaker cabinets with reduced computational complexity:

The compressor plugins now report current gain reduction:

Very good news, indeed. I am currently experimenting with Carla and
involve Caps in 2 out of 5 patches. A lean Cabinet could come in very
handy to free resources for other processors...

Thanks a lot for maintaining Caps for so long and thus providing 1st
class reliable awesomeness for more than 10 years now!

The new Cab is not quite as good as it could be given the computational
effort because Prony's method spreads the filter poles and zeros in a
way that is far from a perfect fit for 10/12/15" guitar loudspeaker
low-pass characteristics and human hearing, but several possible plans
for improving on it exist (though I can't say if or when I'll find the
time to realise them).

Thank you too,
Tim

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep that in mind and look forward the
optimized release.

Still I like to use the modules where they fit my needs. As a musician I
hear the results and as a user I care for the handling. Both are very
much to my satisfaction.

The latest release of caps, a collection of LADSPA plugins, contains
various fixes necessitated by upgrades to gcc and libc.

Other than that, only slight adjustments and fixes have been applied
to various plugins, with the notable exception of major improvements
to the Compress unit.

Hey Tim,
this is great news. I love the CAPS plugins. It would have been sad to
lose the valuable - even indispensible - contribution in my
productions. I'm looking forward to installing the latest version and
keep on having fun.

Best wishes,

Jeanette

Thanks a lot J -- luckily for us it seems that even without my being
involved, distro maintainers will keep the suite working with the
latest versions of gcc and libc, so the plugins seem to have become
somewhat resilient on their own :)

By the way, I liked the relaxed vibe of your latest piece, cheers,
T
