[LAU] [OT] Podcast recommending synth-based (pop)music

Hey hey,
I know this is off-topic, but from remarks made by several members over time,
I gather that quite a few people here enjoy music beyond the mainstream.

The offerings are so generous these days that it can be very hard finding
one's own new music. So I'm looking for a podcast or youtube-show recommending
new synth-based music. So what am I looking for?

I'm looking for something focused on songs, closed units of three to ten
minutes, with or without vocals, hopefully nice independent sound design. I'm
looking for melodic and/or harmonic. So not your average modular-synth stuff
nor typically highly experimental sound art, as our community would see it -
from time to time - from Csound and similar. Neither am I looking for
no-dynamics-at-all dance music. I like that too, but it's easy to find. :)

If I were to mention artists, I
could only think of Imogen Heap and this rather obscure piece by Rod Morris,
who himself appears to be a little obscure:

On the long'ish side, but it has interesting sounds and a strong atmosphere.

Any recommendations? Perhaps genre names to particularly take into account? Or
other search directions/starting points? I have tried but failed so far.

Best wishes and sorry for the OT,

Jeanette

You are probably aware of the Synthwave with all their artists,
podcasts, shows, youtube videos and compilations, and soundsets. With
vocals or instrumental.

Cheers.

I was aware of the term, in the back of my mind. Can you suggest
something?

Best wishes,

Not really. I became aware of this wave because of a Hive soundset I
think,m so I looked it up. It's mostly 80s-like.

Since I was following a "DJ" class with Bitwig there was a song by Lana
Del Rey as a work song for syncs and edits, perhaps this synthwave
remix version could personify somehow the style, with vocals:

There are variations in the style.

Fishing up in the bookmarks:

A 'best of' with 10 million views (2 hours) :

Chillwave / Synthwave / Retrowave with 8.5 million views (37 minutes) :

Another 'best of' with 5.5 million views (1:20 hour) :

It's 'nice' synth music. Not the most daring certainly, easy flowing.
kind of lounge, not bad.

Cheers.

Hi Jonetsu,
yes, synthwave is very 80s in outlook. I don't want to appear ungrateful, but
it really is too 80s and, as you say, not daring at all.

It's funny really, with so many newly invented genres, sub- and subsubgenres,
I could only find such generic terms as synthpop and/or indie pop for Imogen
Heap, which is so generic that synthwave would probably count as a subgenre.
:(

Thanks for the tips, thanks for starting this road.

Best wishes,

Jeanette
