[LAU] [semi-OT] VLC for mobile question

Hey hey,
I know it's not specifically on Linux anymore, but does anyone know fi the VLC
for mobile player can play music based on folders rather than tags? I had a
look, but couldn't find anything on an idevice.

Alternatively: is there perhaps another soltuion for a portable player that
will be mounted on Linux and speak? I had a Rockbox enabled player for a
while, but it's dying and the players that are usable to me and support
Rockbox are a dying breed.

Best wishes and TIA,

Jeanette

Yes you can browse to folder and play from VLC on Android, it's a bit clunky though. Personally I prefer Pulsar Player but I don't know if that will be useful for your use but at least it gives Folders as an option from the main menu and not only the sidebar....

Hello Dale,
thanks for you reply. I just reinstalled VLC for mobile on my iphone.
Which of the entries in the sidebar must be chosen to browse and play
music by folder? I think I tried both "all files" and "albums".
I also tried to install pulsar but my device/OS is too old.

Thanks again and best wishes,

Jeanette

Pulsar is good but we switched to Rocket Player because Pulsar, like almost
every other mobile player, cannot import playlists. Rocket does.

Both of them handle a collection of 15,000+ tracks on a microSD card
without any real issues.

Paul.

I used to have both Pulsar and Rocket but got a bit annoyed with Rocket and now switch between Pulsar and VLC depending. Glad to see on the whole we rate the same apps.

Jeanette.

I have Android, no iPhone, but I open the side menu and you have options from top to bottom:
Video
Audio
Directories
Local Network
...

Selecting Directories allows me to browse to a folder. Once you have found it a long press brings up an option to Play. (The three dots options for the folder seems to only give Delete, not Play, options.)
Or you can open the folder and there is a play button available as well actually.

I hope this helps you achieve what you desire.

Regards, Dale.

Thanks again, I'll take another closer look, maybe get someone sighted
to also have a look at the interface. Perhaps I overlooked something.
Beyond that, the VLC is really accessible and the solution with the
sidebar is quite helpful to me. It makes for less clutter. :)

Best wishes,

Jeanette
